Mindy coordinated Amy's birthday! In attendances were Eleanor, Marlene, Jamie, Shelly, Mindy and Shari-Beth. Mindy organized a beautiful day. We went to the "Mansions in May" event. The Woman’s Association of Morristown Memorial Hospital "Mansion in May" is their signature fundraiser and also their most profitable event. It has generated over $5 million for Morristown Memorial Hospital since its inception in 1974. Over 18,000 visitors attend the Mansion during the month of May.
The 34-acre estate, originally named Graymar Farm, traces back to 1937 when wealthy businessman Allan Kirby, the president of Alleghany Corporation, purchased part of a large farm located in prestigious New Vernon. The farm remained in the Kirby family until 1980. A few years later, the estate was acquired by its current owners, renamed, and greatly enhanced through a meticulous restoration of the main house and other buildings.
We met in the parking lot and shuttled to the mansion. We decided to eat lunch first. Lunch was served in a large white tent. After lunch we toured the mansion. Each room was decorated by different interior designers and we all took home some decorating tips. After the tour we shopped for a bit and all agreed it was too hot and it was time to go home.
We took the shuttle back to the cars where we presented Amy with her gift. A basket full of fun things for the beach. Amy loved it!
From Amy...
Good Morning, girls!
Just want to say a very heartfelt thank you to all of you for a wonderful day yesterday. In spite of the heat, which made us all wilt a little, it was a really lovely afternoon! Lots of pretty things to look at and fun ideas to tuck away for future decorating plans. Some of us have more urgency in that department than others (Marlene!) but you never know when that urge to build a bowling alley will hit you!!!
And I adore the contents of the beautiful beach bag...from the towel to the books, right down to the 70 spf sunscreen...I will be using a lot of that this summer! Lauren had her eye on the cute flower flip flops, but I told her to keep her piggy little toes out of them! They're mine! A very creative and useful gift...thank you!
So thanks again for planning the great day (especially Mindy!), for the fun presents, but mostly thanks for your friendship and for celebrating my big (little!) day!
Love you,
Amy
