Julie's Birthday

On April  14, 2011   we celebrated Julie's Birthday.  We met at Sarabeth's Kitchen.
In 1981, Sarabeth and Bill Levine opened a tiny bakery-kitchen to make and sell her preserves and baked goods. A few tables and chairs were soon added, first for breakfast and then for lunch. The little store, with its unique charm and wholesomely delicious products became an instant success with discriminating New Yorkers. By popular demand Sarabeth's (East) made its debut in 1983, followed by Sarabeth's (West) in 1986. Both restaurants began serving dinner as well as breakfast, lunch and brunch. In 1991, Sarabeth's was honored to become the first private restaurant for the Whitney Museum of American Art where it still serves lunch and brunch to art lovers from around the world. Sarabeth's Bakery at the Chelsea Market, a wholesale/retail bakery and café began operations in 1998. 2005 saw the opening of Sarabeth's largest restaurant in New York City's most prime location, Central Park South, between Fifth and Sixth Aves., just steps from the famed Plaza Hotel and across the street from Central Park. Sarabeth's Key West also debuted in 2005 in its landmark location. Both new restaurants have proven extremely popular.

We ate a lovely lunch and had a really nice time enjoying each other's company. We sat there for a few hours.  We caught up on all topics.

Julie did not want a gift for her birthday.  She was very adamant about that. Her sister-in-law was doing a walk for breast cancer. Julie's brother has had male breast cancer  and so Julie is extremely supportive of the cause.  Instead of a gift,  Julie wanted us to donate to the walk. So we did !  To read Julie's Brother's story click here.

We all thought that was a great idea however, but the Birthday club would not be complete without  a special birthday club gift!  Sooooo

Although it was hard to get up from lunch especially since our waiter had the most magnificent eyes, it was time to go to our next stop the Van Cleef  & Arpels Exhibit.

vca-new-york-image-three.jpgSince its opening on the Place Vendôme in Paris in 1906, Van Cleef & Arpels has played a leading role in style and design innovation. Its timeless pieces have been worn by style icons including the Duchess of Windsor, Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor. This exhibition will explore the historical significance of the firm's contributions to jewelry design in the 20th century, including the establishment of Van Cleef & Arpels in New York with the advent of World War II. On view will be more than 250 works including jewels, timepieces, fashion accessories and objets d'art by Van Cleef & Arpels, many of which were created exclusively for the American market. The exhibition will examine the work through the lenses of innovation, transformation, nature as inspiration, exoticism, fashion and celebrity, and will include design drawings from the Van Cleef & Arpels archives.

It was another successful Birthday Club Bash!

Mindy's Birthday

March  16 , 2011 was Mindy’s celebration.  Shelly planned a great day! Since Mindy loves Tea we started at Lady Mendl's Tea Room.  We had lots of tea and 5 courses of small portions.  There was something for everyone.  Although our crowd might have been a bit loud I think the people who worked at the Tea room might have enjoyed our energy.
Every Birthday Club celebration would not be complete without and activity. So we hopped in a taxi and went to lalita's fragrance shop.  Where we all made our own scents.

We all named our own scents
Mindy – Birthday
Jamie – Sweet Pee
Marlene – Cocoamar
Shari-Beth – Shabby
Eleanor – Home
It was a great day…Happy Birthday to Mindy.

Mindy was so happy to get a Michele watch for her birthday!

Eleanor's Birthday

On January 18, we all celebrating Eleanor’s birthday.  Amy planned a fun ,educational and delicious afternoon.  Everyone was there, Amy, Julie, Shelly, Marlene, Mindy, Shari-Beth, Jamie, and of course Eleanor.  We all me at 90 Acres  .  90 Acres is located at Natirar which is an estate spanning Peapack-Gladstone, Far Hills and Bedminster, New Jersey. Its name is a reverse spelling of Raritan. In 2003 it was sold by the estate of His Majesty, Hassan II, late King of Morocco, to Somerset County, New Jersey, and is now administered by the Somerset County Park Commission. Approximately 90 acres of the estate have been leased to the Virgin Spa at Natirar, an entity controlled by Sir Richard Branson of the Virgin Group, which plans to develop that portion of the estate (which includes the mansion, stable/carriage barn and most of the other outbuildings) into an exclusive hotel, spa, restaurant complex;
As soon as we arrived we all were handed aprons and we began cooking.  We made salad, and French Fries, a tart and dessert.  It was all so yummy.  We enjoyed each other as we learned teqnigues that we can use in our own kitchen.  After we finished cooking we were served our lunch!  It was delicious.  Maybe one day we will open up our own cooking school!

We know Eleanor loves louis Vuitton,  So for her birthday we gave her a Louis Vuitton! :)

Jamie's Birthday September 2010

                                   !

Happy Birthday Jamie!

We all met at Jamie's house! Off we went to Sparta where we would reconnect with our loved ones who had passed. We went to a Medium! Eight of us sat in a circle with the Medium. She went around the room and gave us messages from those who passed. Some of what she said was correct while other things ,we thought, could have applied to anyone.
We were there for over 2 hours. We then went out to dinner. We ate at a small Italian restaurant called Il Portico. We shared some wine, laughs and made friends! At the next table where 8 men, They were from the NYFD. They were in 9/11. They sang Happy Birthday to Jamie and even helped put her birthday necklace on!!

To all of my birthday club buddies...

Thank you so much for an unbelievable afternoon and evening!!! What a blast!!!!

Our new friend "Arlene" was a fantastic experience even if she did not tell most of us things that we wanted to hear. I still enjoyed listening to what she had to say about everyone. DINNER...OMG...DINNER!!! How much fun was that??? I felt like I was in college. Hey girls...we still got it!!! How about those guys from the FDNY!!! HOT!!

Seriously...Thank you so much for celebrating my birthday with me and for making me feel so special. I absolutely love our club and how it takes us away from the everyday "stuff"... even when we feel that we are so busy that we can't take the time to relax, enjoy and just be together. I love my necklaces and I am wearing them as we speak. I will think of you all when I wear them and what a great time we had together!!!

Thank you again!

Until the next time...

XOXOXOXOXOX...all of my love...

Jamie

PS: Great planning and "researching" job!!!

From Mindy...
I am so glad you enjoyed. Had a great time. My mom loved hearing all the stories. She gave Arlene 2 thumbs up.
Long live the Birthday Club!
Mindy

Shelly's Birthday July 2010

Happy Birthday Shelly!

Shelly's birthday was celebrated is SAGAPONICK! Marlene hosted all of us . We left Tuesday morning, July 13th and returned Thursday July 15th. In attendance were Shelly, Marlene, Eleanor, Mindy, Jamie, Amy, and Shari-Beth as well as the newest member Julie. We had a blast!

Although the weather was not cooperating we didn't care. The house was fabulous! It was like we were in a 5 Star hotel! Lunch was waiting for us when we arrived! Jason, the chef had the most delicious and healthy meal prepared for us. We all enjoyed our healthy lunch! After lunch we went shopping in East Hampton. We hoped the weather would get better but it didn't so we went to see the Joan River's movie. After the movie we went back to house and changed into our evening attire and had cocktails! Jason prepared dinner and we sat down at 7:30 for the festive meal. Again, the food was delicious and the portions were perfect.

The question is...How many strawberries do you use and were they macerated!

After dinner we played Apples to Apples and laughed until we cried.  Loads of fun.  We are loving The Birthday Club!

We were all hoping for a little sunshine. The morning was cloudy but after lunch the sun started to shine!  Breakfast and lunch were delicious and sitting by the pool was relaxing.  After lunch it was time for more shopping.  Eleanor, Jamie, Mindy and Amy went into East Hampton while Marlene, Shelly and Shari-Beth relaxed by the pool.  The weather was beautiful!

Before we knew it, it was time to eat so we went into East Hampton for dinner.

That night we hung out and "dished" about Mrs. Corzine. What she was going to do with all the furntire? And ,what was in the locked storage closet in the basment!  Snooping in the basement was fun but it was soon time to get to bed.

Thursday morning we ate breakfast went for a short bike ride and then it was time to return to reality.

It was a great few days with lots of laughs. Thanks Marlene!

From Shelly...
Good morning ladies, Just want to thank you all for taking the time out of your busy schedules to be with me on my birthday week. I had so much fun at Teppers spa and beach club. So when other friends ask me how was my week, I really don't even know how to describe the laughs and the ease that we all seem to feel with each other. We all know that the accommodations couldn't be nicer and the gourmet spa food served to us continuously was delicious, but truthfully it was really about the people. I love each and everyone of you and am so happy you are all apart of my life! Thank you all for being you and I am so excited for all the wonderful birthday events that we will share this year and hopefully for many years together.

All my love, xoxoxoxo Shelly (I'm done!)
